MENO CLINIC

Future patient room at the gynecologist

I´ve designed a future patient room at the gynecologist clinic as my bachelor thesis work. This patient room offers a more private visit and dose not expose the woman infront of the doctor. All to ensure a more comfortable experience of going to the gynecologist.

Workshop

I held a workshop with 7 woman and their task was to build a patient room of how they picture it today and one of how they wanted it to be. The second task was to select the material that they felt was representing the patient room today and their wish of materials.

These are the materials that they think represent the patient room today.

Pattern

Pattern designed for being placed above the chair in the exam area

This pattern is going to be placed above the chair in the exam area to remind the patient that she is the boss over her body. The pattern is quite calm but there is still something that is happening so that the patient has something to look at during the exam. The importance of the pattern is to have a balance between having a distraction but still be aware of what is happening regarding the exam.

Pattern designed for welcome area

This pattern is for the concave wall in the welcome area. In the patient room today there are no patterns or nice prints that decorate the wall and gives a welcoming feeling. So this is an important feature for the expression of the room.

Plan overview

semi transparent wall

IMG_8351.jpg

By having this semi-transparent wall, the doctor will be able to see when the patient is ready and the patient will still have privacy because of the frosted wall. This makes it feel less exposed from the patient's point of view.

Scenario

Todays plan solution

In most of todays patient rooms, you have to walk undressed infront of the doctor. And the walk from the undressing area to the chair can be quite long. That is one factor that makes the situation very exposed. There are no clear sections of privacy in the room and the interior is not build after the patients perspective...

Future plan solution

This patient room is structured after the patient experience and does also enhance the doctors work flow. A structured flow of the room and well designed details creates a less exposed situation. This patient room creates a private feeling and the patient do not have to walk undressed infront of the doctor.

MENO CLINIC

Future patient room at the gynecologist

The result of my project is a thoughtfully planned patient room where the patient doesn’t have to go undressed in front of the gynecologist and where the gynecological chair is screened from the door. All to ensure a more comfortable experience of going to the gynecologist.

By having a new chat area and by separating the room with a semi-transparent wall, makes the patient more involved in the conversation and less focused on the upcoming exam.

Welcome area

The semi-transparent wall makes it easy for the doctor to see when the patient is ready by seeing their contours through the wall.

gynrum.35 (kopia).jpg

The sink for the doctor is outside the exam area to allow a more private feeling for the patient when the exam is done.

The dressing room is designed to invite the patient to a calm and relaxed feeling. It´s equipped with towels to have around the body when going out to the exam area, tampons, menstrual pads, soap, hand disinfection and paper towels. There are also bins for the different products.

Bathroom / Undress area

The dressing room has also a folding chair and a quote above it that says, “Undress your lower body, keep your socks on if you want.”

The chair wasn´t the main focus in this project but I still wanted to re-design it because today´s chair gives a very hard impression and express an unpleasant feeling. It needs a more friendly impression.

The quote and the graphics in the roof above the chair are to remind the patient that she is the boss over her body and that she can stop the exam if something doesn't feel okay.
